(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) – This weekend kicks off the 2020 IndyCar circuit as the teams take to the streets of St Petersburg for the 16th annual Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg on March 15. There are 17 races scheduled for this season including the annual double header in Detroit 30-31 May.
Belle Isle’s temporary 2.35-mile, 13-turn temporary street circuit in Detroit has been the bane for a number of drivers. It presents numerous challenges, from hard braking to speedy straights, and the same areas are ripe for overtaking. The only double-header on the IndyCar circuit, the Dual in Detroit dates back to 2013.
IndyCar makes its only Canadian stop on July 12 as the Hondy Indy Toronto occupies the tight 11-turn, 1.786 mile street course around Exhibition Place where the long front stretch toward Prince’s Gate and the Lakeshore Boulevard straight, leading into a hard 90-degree right-hand turn, are the best places for overtaking
The schedule ends September 20 as the teams roar into the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA, where Josef Newgarden consolidated his 2019 IndyCar championship with an 8th place finish. Can the Hendersonville, TN, native defend his hold on the Borg-Warner Trophy in 2020?
