(NEW YORK, NY) – Heading into the 2020 NFL draft the Lions needed to shore up the defensive line, pass secondary, and offensive line. Many of the issues Detroit faced were problems of their own making.

After taking CB Jeff Okudah at No. 3, the Lions selected RB D’Andre Swift (35th), LB Julian Okwara (67th), and OL Jonah Jackson (75th) in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Swift is a 5-8, 212 lb junior running back out of Georgia where he was a speedy Bulldog, earning first-team All-SEC honors. He picked up 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns on 196 carries and pulled down 24 catches for 216 more yards and another touchdown.

Julian Okwara

Okwara measures up as a 6-4, 252 lb senior out of Notre Dame and will be joining his brother DE Romeo Okwara on the Lions. Julian started his final year with the Fighting Irish with 18 tackles, four sacks, and a blocked kick in his first nine games, but suffered a season ending broken fibula against Duke.

Jackson had an NFL prospect grade of 5.87 heading into the 2020 draft. As a 6-3, 306 lb offensive lineman with Rutgers, he joined Ohio State and won the left guard job in his final year of eligibility. Jackson earned All-American and All-Big Ten honours while starting 14 games for the Buckeyes.

Detroit has four remaining picks, one in each of the 4th through 7th rounds.
